Newark Launching COVID Vaccination Sites Across City

“Pop-up” locations in all five wards will give free shots on different days

Newark, NJ– January 12, 2021 – Mayor Ras J. Baraka announced today that in addition to the City’s current two Newark Department of Health vaccination sites located at 110 William Street and 394 University Avenue, there will be new rotating vaccination locations throughout the city beginning in February. These rotating sites will be open two days per week in each Ward to provide equal access for residents.

“For the past year, our city has been fighting against COVID-19 and our community now has access to the vaccine geared to help give us greater protection from the disease,” Mayor Baraka said. “Rotating vaccination sites will make it easier for anyone who wants a vaccine to get one, similar to how the City has pop-up COVID-19 testing sites throughout Newark. I urge all of our residents to stay informed, make the best decision for your families, and continue to stay vigilant.”

The tentative schedule, locations, and operation times will be announced closer to the start date.

Following the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and New Jersey state guidelines, vaccines are currently available to people in Phase 1A, including, but not limited to: all paid and unpaid individuals who work in hospitals, long-term care facilities, home care, urgent care and clinics, dialysis centers, dental offices, funeral homes, pharmacies, public health, group homes, and those who work in emergency medical services (EMS). This includes both clinical and non-clinical staff. Certain individuals in Phase 1B, including sworn law enforcement, fire professionals, and other first responders are also eligible to receive the vaccine.

The State will make an announcement regarding when additional frontline essential workers and individuals at high risk will be eligible for the vaccine under Phase 1B and Phase 1C. Seniors who are 75 years and older are included in Phase 1B.
