Metropolitan Baptist Church Honors Living Legends
Pastor David and Rev. Linda Jefferson, Metropolitan Baptist Church in Newark and its African American Cultural Ministry hosted its First Annual Newark Living Legends Luncheon on April 29. Eleven people whose actions touch and improve the lives of those around them were honored. Many of the honorees work in local government such as: Elizabeth Councilwoman Patricia Perkins-Auguste, and from Newark: Deputy Mayor Ligia DeFreitas, Councilwoman Louise Scott Rountree, Council President LaMonica McIver, and Newark’s first African American (1994) Councilwoman Mildred C. Crump.
Other honorees come from various walks of life: Restaurateur and Entrepreneur Adenah Bayoh, Urban League of Essex County President Vivian Cox Frasier, Interfaith Clergy Alliance Coordinator Bishop Ronald Jones, People’s Organization for Progress Chairman Lawrence Hamm, Bloomfield College Women’s Basketball Head Coach Vanessa Watson. The Positive Community is especially proud of our honoree TPC Publisher Adrian Council Sr.
