Mother’s Day Miracle

This Mother’s Day, Marcie Robertson, from West Orange NJ, will have a truly heartfelt celebration.
The 51-year-old, mother of three will celebrate more than just Mother’s Day, she will also enjoy the gift of life that she received from Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility.
On March 25th Marcie received a life-saving heart transplant after a year of battling heart failure.
In March of 2025 Marcie went to her local emergency department with an extremely swollen knee, she could barely walk. She thought the swelling was related to the blood thinning medications that she had been taking following open heart surgery but was shocked to hear that she was experiencing advanced heart failure.
Her heart was only pumping at 15 percent capacity.
She was referred to Dr. Kulpreet S. Barn, Director of the Heart Failure, Heart and Vascular Service Line at RWJBarnabas Health, who leads a team dedicated to managing complex heart conditions. Dr. Barn managed her care and referred her to the Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant team at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.
Dr. Matthew Montgomery interventional heart failure cardiologist and Interim Chief of Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant and Dr. Igor Gosev, Chief of Heart Transplantation & Mechanical Circulatory Support at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center listed Marcie for transplant in February and by March 25th they performed the heart transplant that saved her life.
Today, Marcie is doing well and looking forward to enjoying Mother’s Day with her children, her oldest daughter was born at Newark Beth Israel.
There are not many people who can say that one hospital gave them the gift of life, twice.
