Viola Davis Wins Actress in Supporting Role

During the 89th Annual Academy Awards, Viola Davis (finally!) won the well-deserved Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Rose Maxson in Fences, and in her emotional acceptance speech, the proud wife and mother thanked her husband and daughter for their undying support.

“And to my husband and my daughter — my heart,” she said through tears. “You and Genesis, you teach me every day how to live and how to love. I’m so glad that you are the foundation of my life. Thank you to the Academy.”

Before the broadcast, Davis shared a sweet photo on Instagram with her two favorite people and it’s guaranteed to make your heart smile.
“My family. Thank you everyone for your love and support!” she wrote in the caption.

Davis and her husband, fellow actor Julius Tennon, tied the knot in 2003. They met three weeks after the How To Get Away With Murder star prayed a special prayer for love to come into her life.

“I was the loneliest woman in the world, and someone said, ‘You should just pray for a husband,” Davis told The New York Post’s Page Six.”I said I wanted a big black man from the South who looked like a football player, who already had children, who maybe had been married before Three and a half weeks later, I met my husband.”

The couple adopted their daughter Genesis in October 2011.

Congratualtions Viola!
