NEWARK, NJ – As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a devastating impact on the health and economic well-being of Newark’s families, Newark-based charter management organization BRICK Education Network, Macy’s and UPS are working together to distribute coats to residents in the South Ward as part of the South Ward Gives Initiative. The coat drive will take place on Saturday, February 6 between 10am – 3pm. Approximately 2,500 coats will be distributed at a Macy’s pop-up shop set up in Achieve Community Charter School in Newark. Approximately 7,500 masks will also be distributed at the coat drive in conjunction with BRICK’s participation in the Harlem Children’s Zone’s national #StayCoveredTogether campaign. #StayCoveredTogether is a nationwide COVID-19 relief and recovery initiative dedicated to providing personal protective equipment (PPE) to hard-hit communities of color and educating residents about the proper way to wear masks. BRICK is one of a handful of organizations across the nation to participate in this critical campaign. Since the campaign began in September 2020, BRICK has distributed over 50,000 masks toward the goal of delivering 200,000 PPE items to Newark residents by June 2021.
