13th Annual Ray Murphy Men’s Health Night

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, hosted over 450 attendees from Newark and the greater Newark area at the Annual Ray Murphy Men’s Health Night to date on September 4, 2025, at the Cedar Hill Country Club.

The expert panel discussion was moderated by 1986 NY Giants Captain and Super Bowl XXI Champion George Martin and included:

· Robert Bagoff, DMD, MAGD, DICOI, Co-Director of the Chivian Dental Center at Newark Beth Israel’s Dental Residency Program, emphasized the connection between dental and overall health.

· Jose Bustillo, DO: Board-certified in internal medicine, shared insights on managing chronic illnesses like diabetes, obesity, and high cholesterol.

· Eric Chan, MD, Urologist with Essex Hudson Urology Group/RWJBarnabas Health, discussed an integrated approach to urology.

· Matthew Montgomery, DO, MBA, MPH: Cardiologist with the Advanced Heart Failure Treatment and Transplant team, one of the top twenty programs in the nation discussed the importance of caring for your heart health.

· Shahan Syed, MD, Adult Psychiatrist, RWJBarnabas Health, representing Newark Beth Israel’s Behavioral Health Department, spoke on emotional wellness.

Attendees had the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive range of health activities, including prostate testing (PSA), blood pressure, glucose, and dental screenings. They also received information on lung and colon cancer screening.

This free health event continued with a dinner reception along with viewing the NFL’s season opener “Thursday Night Football” matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys.

“Men’s Health Night creates a welcoming space where men can connect, learn, and receive vital screenings—all in an empowering and positive environment,” said Atiya Jaha-Rashidi, MHA, RN, Chief Equity Officer and Vice President of Community Health, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey.

The event was generously supported by Carin M. Ohnell and the Ohnell Family Foundation. Based in Greenwich, Connecticut, the Foundation supports initiatives in education, youth, policy, arts and culture, and the environment. By extending their support for a second year, Ms. Ohnell and the Foundation are helping to elevate men’s health as a community priority and ensuring this free program continues to grow in reach and impact.

Representatives from Rutgers Cancer Institute, Newark Beth Israel’s Vascular, Geriatrics, Diabetes Center, Respiratory, Colon, Lung, Wellness, Cardiac Rehabilitation and Dental Centers, Community Health Workers, and Internal Medicine physicians were on hand to help deliver health information and screenings.
