A Conversation and Concert with Guy Davis
Mayor Ras Baraka hosted a conversation “A Conversation and Concert with Guy Davis,” the son of actors and activists Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, on Wednesday, April 12, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Clement’s Place, located at 15 Washington Street in downtown Newark. The event was part of the Blues People Festival International’s Continuing Education program.
Mr. Davis is a blues guitarist and banjo player, stage actor, writer, with numerous jazz albums to his credit. He has performed with such titans as Carly Simon, Pete Seeger, and Taro Rodriguez-Seeger, and recorded songs on albums with others, like Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, and Bruce Springsteen.
He has also done residency programs with the Kennedy Center, the New Jersey State Theater, and the Lincoln Center Institute. He has been honored at the Kennedy Center for his work.
The event was held in conjunction with Rutgers University-Newark’s Institute for Jazz Studies.
