HBCU Student Exceeds $6K GoFundMe Goal To Continue Her Studies After Kyrie Irving Donates $22K
Kyrie Irving has made a significant donation that will help a Howard University student continue her studies.
Destiny Thompson, a sophomore civil engineering major with a mathematical minor at the Historically Black College and University (HBCU), is determined to reach the finish line.
The New Jersey native detailed that she was seeking community support to do so because she is facing various challenges as a first-generation college student.
She detailed her experience on her GoFundMe page.
“I have been working tirelessly since I was 16. As a first-generation student from a family of ten, I have faced many challenges on my journey to higher education. As a first-generation college student, it is not uncommon for me to have self-doubt and lack financial and emotional support. Investing in myself is my primary reason for attending college. The importance of knowledge cannot be overstated, in my opinion,” Thompson detailed.
Thompson also touched on the impact of attending the illustrious university, and how she hopes to fulfill her degree. She plans to make an imprint in the world by helping students like herself attend college.
At the moment, she says she is working to make ends meet through a job at Walmart.
On her GoFundMe, Thompson wrote that “any contributions would be helpful and greatly appreciated. All donations will go directly to my balance for this semester.”
