Juneteenth Celebration in Irvington
Hundreds of guests and neighbors gathered in Irvington for a celebration of freedom, commemorating Juneteenth. President of the People’s Organization for Progress Lawrence Hamm, served as keynote speaker. Rev. H. Grady James and Brother David Edouard coordinated the event, which spoke to the African American historical struggles and power to shape and carry out a vision that pays tribute to the generations who sacrificed and died fighting for freedom, social justice, and equality of opportunity.
Numerous community organizations such as First Bethel Baptist Church, Irvington; The Eight Masonic District of Prince Hall Masons Golconda Temple #24 AEAONOMS; The Irvington Chamber of Commerce; Upsilon Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.; and other Divine Nine members participated. The Irvington PBA and Irvington Local 14 Fire Fighters Union made major contributions as well as Essex County College, Lincoln Tech Union, and many others. —TPC Staff
