Renewal at Mount Pisgah AME

Rev. Paul P. Martin Charts a Community-Focused Future

At Mount Pisgah African Methodist Episcopal Church, the spirit of renewal is not just a theme; it is becoming visible in the life of the church and throughout the surrounding community. That sense of momentum continues with the reappointment of Rev. Paul P. Martin for another year as pastor of the historic Jersey City congregation.

For Rev. Martin, the next chapter is about much more than maintaining tradition. He has challenged the congregation to think beyond the sanctuary walls and become a more visible force for faith, outreach, and transformation across the city. Calling 2026 the church’s “Year of Reclamation,” Rev. Martin has encouraged members to recommit themselves to worship, service, and meaningful community engagement.

“We are going to move outside the four walls of 354 Forrest Street, looking to change lives and transform communities,” Rev. Martin said. “This is the year of reclamation, and we are going to be intentional about reaching people, blessing people, and bringing people to Christ.” That vision has already begun taking shape.

Over the past year, Mount Pisgah has experienced a period of steady growth and revitalization. Improvements to the church building and sound system have modernized worship experiences, while ministries aimed at strengthening congregational life continue to expand. A children’s church and new men’s choir have been added, church membership has grown, and financial stewardship efforts have helped increase giving while reducing expenses.

But perhaps the church’s strongest impact is felt beyond Sunday worship services.

Mount Pisgah’s recurring third Saturday feeding ministry and community meal program continue serving Jersey City residents facing food insecurity and hardship. Those outreach efforts have become an important part of the church’s identity—blending spiritual encouragement with practical support for families and individuals in need.

Rev. Martin says the church’s future depends on active participation from both members and the broader community. Through Bible study, church school, women’s Bible study, fellowship ministries, and outreach initiatives, Mount Pisgah is positioning itself as both a spiritual home and a community anchor.

For a church with deep roots in Jersey City, the message is clear: Mount Pisgah is not standing still. Under Rev. Martin’s continued leadership, the congregation is embracing a future centered on faith, service, and reclaiming its role as a transformative presence in the community.
