Community Scientists: Connecting on Cancer Research Education
Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey is on the forefront of cancer research and innovation, seeking new pathways to understand properties of cancer that advance treatments closer to a cure. Rutgers Cancer Institute, in collaboration with RWJBarnabas Health & ScreenNJ, is committed to meeting the cancer-related needs of communities across the state of New Jersey. Through bidirectional community outreach and engagement (COE), we lead, conduct and support efforts to reduce the cancer burden in the Garden State.
In this series, we talk with community members who have dedicated precious time and energy into upholding our mission of advancing cancer health equity across the entire state of New Jersey through community capacity building, participatory research, advocacy, community and patient navigation, and innovative education and training, with a focus on underserved populations. In this video, Walee Jackson discusses his experience with the Community Scientist Training Program offered by Rutgers Cancer Institute and how it has helped to bridge the gap between the researchers at CINJ and the communities that we serve.
