Fourth Annual Kool Kids Foundation Golf Outing

Hosted by Robert “Kool” Bell, the 4th annual Kool Kids Golf Outing raised funds for the Kool Kids Foundation. Co-founder of the seven-time Grammy Award winning band Kool and the Gang, Kool and his sons, Muhammad and Hakiem Bell, started the foundation in memory of Kool’s wife and the mother of his sons, their beloved, Sakinah. “She was dedicated to keeping music education alive for our children.”

Kool Kids Foundation (KKF) raises money to purchase and donate musical instruments to schools and institutions that touch the lives of young people. A timely and essential goal, KKF offers a simple, practical solution to a complex issue. As the saying goes, “It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness.” The title song on Kool and the Gang’s iconic 1974 album, Light of Worlds, speaks directly to the issues of our times.

The Glenfield Middle School in Montclair received a $25,000 donation, and Malcolm X Shabazz High School Marching Band received $14,000. Bell says that “music is a vital tool for the mind and spirit. Music has been my message throughout my whole career…and I think that music plays a very important role.” —TPC Staff
