Brooklyn Information Technology Graduate Focuses on the Future
Berkeley College graduates are excited for where the road will lead next. Edwin Fleurant, an Information Technology Management graduate, received job offers with both New York University and the National Security Agency.
“My goal right now is to help the nation’s cybersecurity, and to help the youth in information technology and in business,” he said. “The important lessons I’ve learned is that I’m more than I think I am. To take every failure as an opportunity to grow myself and to develop.”
Mr. Fleurant was one of more than 2,200 graduates who were awarded diplomas during the Berkeley College Commencement ceremony on May 10, 2019, at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
The Brooklyn-born student from Flatbush, who is of Jamaican descent, has always wanted to pursue a career in technology. As a student at Berkeley College, he completed an internship with Marvel Studios at the company’s Greenpoint location, where he was tasked with maintaining equipment and troubleshooting. He says the experience was unforgettable.
“It was amazing,” Mr. Fleurant said. “Every day I was learning something new – it was very rewarding.
Mr. Fleurant also serves as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves, where he utilizes his technology skills to help his community. His duties with the Reserves include providing support and security for major events such as the NYC Marathon.
“Every one of us at the Berkeley College Commencement ceremony shares the pride of these graduates because we know the difference a college degree will make in their futures, and how the upward mobility of these graduates will impact future generations,” said Michael J. Smith, President of Berkeley College.
