Vanguards of Community Change Celebrated

Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) New Jersey brought together community members and changemakers for its 16th Annual Neighborhood Achievement Awards in April, turning MetLife Stadium into a celebration of community heroes. Hosted by News 12 NJ’s Nicholas Meidanis, the event honored individuals and organizations making real, on-the-ground impact in neighborhoods across the state.
“This night is all about celebrating the people who are out here doing the work every day,” said LISC New Jersey Executive Director Jorge Cruz. “We wanted to take a moment to shine a light on them.”
One of the night’s top honors, the Exemplary Public Partner Award, went to State Senator Britnee N. Timberlake (NJ-34). On the private side, Amber Randolph accepted the Exemplary Private Partner Award on behalf of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
John Harmon, president and CEO of the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his career-long dedication to economic development and uplifting underserved communities. “It’s humbling,” Harmon said. “This kind of recognition reminds you that the work matters—and that people are paying attention.”
Charles Venti, president and CEO of Inventive Strategies, was honored with the Lifetime Champion of Change Award. He’s spent his life breaking barriers and empowering communities. The award celebrated his commitment to pushing for progress.
The final honor of the evening, the Rhonda A. Lewis Inspirational Community Advocate Award, went to Rev. Eric Dobson, CEO of United Black Agenda/Fair Share Housing Center. The award recognized his bold leadership in fighting for justice and opportunity in New Jersey’s urban neighborhoods.
Congratulations to all the honorees, and hats off to LISC New Jersey for continuing to lift up those who are helping our communities thrive.
