Enon Church: Faith, Vision, Legacy

Enon Church has been a beacon of faith and worship since its establishment in 1872. From its earliest days, the church has provided a spiritual home for generations, guided by dedicated pastors including Reverend Jerry Jones, Reverend A.J. Beavers, and Reverend J.F. Farmer. In 1893, under the leadership of Reverend G.W. Woodson, the church expanded with the construction of its North Campus, a symbol of growth and commitment to the community. Over the decades, preachers such as Reverends R.T. Shell, P.H. Head, O.J. Moore, J.M. Gates, O.L. Pearson, and J.L. Lockhart faithfully shepherded the congregation, ensuring that the church remained a vibrant center for spiritual life.
As time progressed, new leaders continued to nurture the congregation, bringing more souls to Christ. Reverends U.G. Campbell, J.H. Walker, W.L. Reynolds, Saint John Clark, and W.J. Clark served faithfully, often leading services on the first and third Sundays of the month. Their dedication laid a strong foundation for future growth, instilling the values of faith, service, and community that have continued to define Enon Church over the years.
A pivotal moment in Enon Church’s history came in March 1993, when Pastor Gregory L. Pollard accepted the full-time pastorate. Despite his youth, Pastor Pollard brought a bold vision for a ministry that touched both the spiritual and physical needs of the congregation. He emphasized consistency and leadership, becoming the first pastor in Enon’s history to lead worship services every Sunday. In 2002, he initiated an 8:00 a.m. early morning service, further expanding the church’s reach and accessibility.
“Through prayer, fasting, strategic planning, and perseverance, God has brought Enon this far by His faithfulness.”
Under Pastor Pollard’s leadership, the appointment and ordination of deacons became an essential part of church governance and spiritual development. Leaders such as Henry Battle, Robert Bell, Eric Collins, and others provided vital support in ministry coordination. In 2011, additional deacons were ordained, reflecting a commitment to strong leadership, accountability, and service within the church. These efforts strengthened the foundation of Enon Church and ensured its ongoing growth.
The church also developed a robust team of elders and ministers who contribute to the spiritual enrichment of the congregation. Leaders such as Dr. Louis Allen, Michael Anderson, Sandra Brown, and Antonio Wright, among others, have guided various ministries, including youth and adult programs. Pastor Pollard emphasized cultivating leadership from within, ensuring that both experienced and new ministers could lead with vision and integrity. As he stated, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he, for with God, all things are possible.”
Pastor Pollard’s vision extended beyond local ministry, fostering missions that reached internationally. Enon Church supported the work of Dr. Gladys Twyman in Nigeria, establishing schools to provide education and opportunity for children abroad. Domestically, the church organized ministries and programs that addressed the spiritual, social, and economic needs of the Atlanta community. By appointing Paquel H. Austin as the first church administrator, Pastor Pollard ensured effective management to complement the spiritual leadership.
The construction of a new worship center marked a significant chapter in Enon Church’s evolution. Beginning in 1996 with the acquisition of 26 acres, the church developed a strategic plan that involved committees, architects, and generous contributors. By 2004, the congregation celebrated the first worship service in the new sanctuary, marking a milestone in the church’s history.
“My vision is not to gather numbers but to transform lives through Christ.”
Enon Church’s ministries have expanded to serve every member of the community. Programs like Family First Wednesdays, Lunch with the Lord, and specialized youth and women’s ministries reflect a holistic approach to discipleship. Initiatives such as the Five Loaves Ministry and S.O.A.R.M. mentoring provide tangible support for those in need, while fostering spiritual growth. The church’s dedication to service ensures that faith is expressed not only in worship but in action.
Education and youth development have also been central to Enon Church’s mission. The Educational Ministry and Children’s Church Ministry focus on developing children’s spiritual, academic, and personal growth. Summer enrichment programs, such as the Ecademy, offer safe and engaging learning environments, while the Scholarship Ministry provides financial assistance for students pursuing higher education. These programs exemplify the church’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders.
Pastor Pollard’s leadership during challenging times, including the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrated adaptability and compassion. Virtual worship services, community grocery and PPE drives, COVID-19 testing and vaccination initiatives, and financial assistance ensured that the church continued to meet both spiritual and physical needs. His efforts illustrate the church’s commitment to holistic ministry and its role as a community anchor.
Enon Church’s history is also one of deep familial and communal involvement. Ministries such as Couples in Christ, the Seasoned Saints, and the Birth Month Ministry foster unity, fellowship, and spiritual growth among members. Pastor Pollard emphasized the importance of cultivating relationships that strengthen the church family while promoting outreach to the broader community.
Through 28 years of service, Pastor Gregory L. Pollard has overseen the transformation of Enon Church from a modest congregation to a thriving spiritual and community hub. Under his guidance, membership has grown from approximately 165 to over 2,300. Yet, as he notes, the focus remains on instilling reverence for God in individual lives.
“We endeavor to lift Christ, seek the salvation of the unsaved, foster unity of faith, and promote a more excellent way of living.”
Enon Church today stands as a testament to faith, perseverance, and visionary leadership. From its rich historical roots to its modern ministries and expansive outreach programs, the church continues to lift Christ, serve the community, and advance God’s Kingdom. With a focus on education, family, and spiritual growth, Enon Church remains a dynamic force, guided by the enduring vision of Pastor Gregory L. Pollard.
